Dr. Charalampos Pitsalidis is a senior researcher at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology at the University of Cambridge. He holds a BSc in Physics, an MSc degree in Nanotechnology and a PhD in Physics. His current interests lie on developing innovative technologies to better understand and study biological systems. His research has led to a new class of biomimetic devices that can be used for high content preclinical drug testing and personalized medicine/therapies. His technology represents a step forward to the so-called “organ-on-chip” platforms by combining accurate biological models with state-of-the-art electronic devices. His current efforts focus on exploring the effects of the microbiome on intestine and brain pathophysiology. He has authored more than 25 publications in high impact journals, presented his work in international conferences in Europe and US and participated in more than 10 funded research projects in the fields of Nanomaterials, Bioengineering and Bioelectronics.
